Will you help us equip this important church
for its future ministry?

Restoration
of St. Peter's Chantilly, France
(Anglican ministry begun by ICS in 1841; built 1865; architect Thomas
Fraser Duff; project estimate €515,000 plus fees and insurance
of €65,000)
As part of a long-established Anglophone community living north
of Paris, St. Peter's attracts a typical Sunday congregation of
some sixty adults and thirty under-16s.Due
to the position of the church and local soil conditions, damp has
over time caused significant damage to the walls and floor, necessitating
major repair work including the replacement of the floor, and preventative
work to avoid future problems.
A phased programme of works is planned to
1. improve drainage and ventilation (€60,000)
2. repair and renovate the roof (€55,000)
3. install a membrane under and replace the church floor, install
disabled access to comply with current law, and utilise the opportunity
to rewire, replace the sound and heating systems and redecorate
(€220,000)
4. restore and landscape the church grounds after the laying of
new drainage, repoint and repair the boundary walls, and repair
the railings (€100,000)
5. repair stonework and repair and repaint the exterior wood and
metal work (€80,000).
Costings are initial architect's estimates and, as in all such projects,
will be subject to tendering. The church is located in a conservation
area so works will be required to conform to the applicable (stricter)
building regulations. This church is a historic building and support
of this programme of works will restore it to a high standard, equip
it for future ministry, and provide a more attractive venue for
concerts and events for the Anglophone and Francophone communities
(as the church and adjacent hall are used for a variety of community,
recreational and educational events such as courses on marriage).
The church has formed a project and fundraising committee, is receiving
donations from both the Christian and local communities, and so
has raised €63,000 to date. ICS and the congregation will also
be launching an appeal in the UK for the other €517,000
/ £457,131.
Your gift would
be a great encouragement: just send in your donation made out to
'Intercontinental Church Society' and in a covering note express
the wish that ICS uses your gift towards the building project at
this church, or call us with your credit or debit card to hand.
You can also donate online
- just select for example 'Chantilly - building project' from the
drop down menu - but transaction
fees will be deducted from your gift so it is usually more cost-efficient
to call us to make a credit card donation. Please also consider
making an additional gift to ICS's general fund for the benefit
of our wider work.

May: The 'Race' for St Peter's - 150 years and 550 km
150 years
ago the duc DAumale, son of King Louis Philippe, sold land
in Chantilly to ICS to enable the building of an English-style church,
a place of worship and mission to the growing number of English-speaking
people resident in and around the town of Chantilly. So this year
we celebrate a marvellous story of God's work in Chantilly, but
as explained above the church needs restoring and re-equipping for
the coming years. To mark the 150 years and raise funds, on 11 May
a group of eleven cyclists and a support team of six people will
begin a cycling challenge, determined to incorporate our history
into our 150th celebrations. The bike ride begins in Orleans House,
Twickenham, the residence of the duc DAumale in exile. Then
to Dover and through the historic Somme region and then home to
finish at the church in Chantilly. Total planned distance: 550 km.
Will you sponsor us? All proceeds will help us restore St. Peters
and equip it for many more years of mission! Just click for a personal
sponsorship form, form
for your church or workplace, or to give on
line select Chantilly - St. Peters building

Just 1p/km would
be £5.50 and 10p/km only £55! Please be as generous
as you can.
