Chaplains
Ordained
evangelical priests with a clear sense of call to overseas mission are
sought for two important posts in mission and ministry to the English-speaking
international communities. Both posts require cross-cultural and diplomatic
skills; the maturity and wisdom to work wisely and safely in the respective
cultural contexts; and the ability proactively to build up the existing
congregations to a size when they can meet the cost of funding their
chaplain themselves. Accommodation and usual expenses of office are
included, but the stipends paid (circa £5,000) enable chaplains
to live comfortably at the local standard of living and so are not in
line with normal C of E stipends. It is anticipated that the chaplains
will benefit from being a mission partner of ICS, details of which will
be provided in the information pack. The successful candidate would
be expected to subscribe to the Diocesan Principles of faith and
practice.
Holy Trinity Church, Algiers
A young,
small and strategic church seeks an experienced, Bible-loving, gospel
centred, caring pastor and teacher who can build up the church from
a diverse international community, is ready to accept the challenges
of ministry in North Africa, and can play an important role in ecumenical
and interfaith relations. Arabic or French language skills are essential.
All Saints Cathedral, Cairo
A chaplain
is required who has a proven track-record in parish or chaplaincy ministry,
who can think and minister strategically, and who has excellent interpersonal
and cross-cultural skills. The chaplain would also be temporarily responsible
for coordinating the whole Cathedral ministry (including the different
language services) until a suitably qualified and experienced national
is found to fill the position of Dean. The ideal candidate would be
willing to stay for some six years but shorter periods may be considered.
He would be working with, and in the short term, heading up a multi-national
staff of Egyptian, Sudanese and Ethiopian pastors. A working knowledge
of Arabic, or the ability to learn it quickly, is essential.
If you would like
an initial discussion or more information please call ICS or e-mail
Jeannette Skuse ajskuse@ics-uk.org
for an information pack. Initial closing date for these posts was 23
June 2008 (as indicated in the information available for download);
however if you are interested in any of the posts (or for other, future
posts in this Diocese) and 23 June has passed, please complete and return
the application form anyway and we will keep your details on file should
suitable candidates not have been found through the first round of interviews.

Reaching
international students with the gospel
ICS
has joined forces with Friends
International and IFES
to help chaplaincies work amongst international students. Suitably
experienced volunteers are recruited for a period of two years to help
develop chaplaincies' ministry of discipleship and evangelism amongst
foreign students using the medium of English. Friends
International is recruiting for the Reach into Europe volunteer programme
in 2008, with opportunities in a number of countries including:
Leipzig, Germany (www.leipzig-english-church.de):
length of placement: 2 years; start date: ASAP. The chaplaincy is looking
for a worker who is a self-starter with some ministry experience and
gifting in international student work, one to one and small group Bible
study to develop the international student work within the church context.
The role will involve some general responsibilities within the church
but with the majority of time focused on English speaking International
students. The work with international students will involve evangelism
and discipling in co-operation with existing SMD (IFES Germany) and
Campus Crusade. Languages needed: fluent English and a working knowledge
of German or willingness and aptitude to learn.
Please
note: all placements are self financing which means the applicant will
need to raise their own financial support. Accommodation will be provided
by the placement church.
