It fills me with awe that God in Christ pours out his unfailing love on us, the psalmist called it priceless. It is my ambition that many who visit Wengen become aware of God’s unfailing love and that St. Bernard’s can have some small part in allowing them to become aware of his love through the ministry happening in and through the church.

This summer, our chaplains have been able to share that love with those on the other side of the Lauterbrunnen valley too—in Mürren.  The old English Church there has long been in the hands of the Swiss Reformed Church but, this year, we have been able to organise to use it on a Wednesday evening for worship and as a base for outreach.  Our reputation in Wengen has meant that the church and village authorities have been so helpful and welcoming, and our chaplains have had exciting opportunities, albeit with small numbers at first, as our presence becomes established. One chaplain wrote of his surprise when, ‘At Mürren on 15 August, an English lady turned up with a Service Register for the English Church at Mürren! She seemed delighted to find that English Services were happening again.’

Inside St. Bernard’s, have installed a new interactive display to engage people as they visit. These will tell something of the story of the church as well as the Christian message. We have many visitors who drop in to enjoy the quiet space and take a moment to think and pray. We want to engage them in an interesting way, as well as introduce them to the chaplain.

I am aware that people have a special affection for St. Bernard’s and that you may welcome the opportunity to stand with us in giving towards the ongoing costs and repairs that we need to make to keep St. Bernard’s a beautiful and welcoming place. Please, consider making a donation to ICS, be it £50, £500 or £5,000 to allow us to continue this valuable ministry through the English Church (St. Bernard’s) in Wengen.  Your support matters immensely to us. Without a regular congregation the church is sustained by the gifts and regular giving of people who have enjoyed being part of the church for brief moments yet feel a special affinity with it.

Thank you for your generous support, partnership and prayer and we look forward to seeing you again in Wengen!
