If you are finding yourself in a position of being able to share your resources with other people who may be in need there are different ways to do this.  Food banks are becoming more and more prevalent in our society but although food is a primary need for many there are plenty of other resources that can be donated to people in need.

Personal care items are especially important to donate and many local food banks will also accept these items. These important resources are toiletries such as toothpaste and soap and grooming items such as brushes and razors.

The demand for Feminine hygiene products has recently risen in prominence as the issues around period poverty have come to light. A survey from Plan International UK in 2017 reported that 1 in 10 girls had been unable to afford sanitary products; 1 in 7 had to ask to borrow sanitary wear from a friend due to affordability issues and 1 in 10 had to improvise sanitary wear.

The next time you’re in your local supermarket doing your weekly shop, and you find yourself in a position to do so, why not pick up a few extra essentials to donate to a local food bank or shelter.
