The English-Speaking Church on Ibiza and Formentera work closely with two different food stores on the island, one run by 24-7 Ibiza and the other by Caritas.

24-7 Ibiza exists to care for the emotional, physical and spiritual needs of the community and are part of 24-7 Prayer International, a global Christian movement. They provide a number of different resources in San Antonio and in Ibiza Town. Cáritas diocesana is the body created by the Diocese of Ibiza for the exercise of its social charitable institutional action. They carry out a number of different social action initiatives including food and second-hand clothes distribution.

Adrian Green, the chaplain in Ibiza said “We regularly collect goods for 24-7 but at Christmas and Easter we also run a specific campaign to help Caritas bring some joy to families and individuals in particular need.  We liaise with the management to see what items they are short of and then let people in the church and via social media know what we are collecting.”

This year the congregation are doing a Reverse Lent, and rather than necessarily giving up food, they give it away. Each Sunday in Lent we collect the food at our services and then a volunteer from the congregation passes it on to the local centre in Sant Antoni.
