James Buxton is keeping busy in Izmir as the church of St. Mary Magdalene, Bornova is being restored.

In November 2020, a smart new terrace was laid around the World War 1 memorial, in time for an Armistice Day ceremony.

For three months now the artist and calligrapher Murat Patur has been restoring the faux marble walls and beautiful stucco-work in the interior of the church.

In the meantime, Cleopatra, the church cat, is keeping nice and relaxed as she surveys the work from her throne.

We pray for the successful completion of this work, and look forward to worshipping together in this lovely, peaceful building once again when the work is completed.

Our principal place of worship is the church of St John the Evangelist, in the centre of the city. Find out more about the churches, the services and to support financially here.
