We are inviting all our ICS members and supporters to help build a Church Planters’ Pipeline for the future ...

Thank you for being part of our ICS family and for your commitment to see English-speaking churches planted and nurtured in Europe, North Africa and across the world. For over 200 years we have been courageous, imaginative and generous pioneers of mission - this is our life-blood, this is who we are.

We believe that we all have a part to play to be witnesses of Jesus ‘in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth’ (Acts 1:8). We have been starting new churches since our earliest days in Newfoundland and Western Australia, and that faithful journey carries on today, and tomorrow.

Planting new churches takes prayer, courage and sacrifice. Of course, it is a great joy too, and a way of increasing our faith and reliance on God as His ambassadors.

With your help, we want to continue offering church planting training and using our staff resources to gather together teams from churches who want to step out in faith to start new Christian communities.

Your gift this autumn will help us resource and encourage church leaders and church leadership teams. These are the people on the front line who know the conditions on the ground, live, work and take their children to school in the places where we long to see new flourishing expressions of Christian community.

This is the work of God’s Sovereign Holy Spirit - we, at ICS, are here to cheer, to pray, to give, and to share the gospel ourselves, whether that’s halfway across the world, or next-door, or on short-term mission.

  • At St Marc’s, Grenoble, we are considering church planting, and we see elements of the programme that are applicable to our own situation in a very multicultural church, with children. These elements can help us build on what we have and direct us where the Lord wishes us to grow. This is what we pray for, and for the Church Planting project as a whole.

  • The vision for All Saints Paderborn was first placed on our hearts in 2010: an English-speaking church serving the people of Paderborn. Sixteen years later, that vision is becoming a reality. All Saints will be an Anglican church with a heart for military families and veterans, internationals, students, professionals and families across the city and surrounding area. We want to build a welcoming, Christ-centred, Spirit-led community rooted in Scripture, where people can encounter Jesus, find belonging and follow clear discipleship pathways. Our vision is to equip people for mission, develop new leaders and work in partnership with the wider Christian community to be a blessing to Paderborn.

  • The Aquitaine chaplaincy covers a vast area. In summer 2025 this area was served by just eleven Anglican congregations, making travel times a serious inhibitor for many people. In God’s grace He has raised up groups of mission-minded people committed to planting new expressions of church in Libourne and Arcachon, making worship and fellowship accessible to many. We pray for new opportunities to establish missional congregations in the geographical gaps. Especially we pray for the opportunity to plant new work in Bordeaux where there are many opportunities, and a well-established church longing for the resources to do more mission.

The Revd Canon John and Jeanie Bavington

  • The first ICS Church Planting Training took place in Lyon (28 September to 1 October 2026), following months of preparation and prayer. The training is designed for teams preparing to launch a new church or worshipping community within the next year. Across the ICS community, teams are at different stages; from exploring possibilities and praying about where and with whom to begin, to building teams, securing locations, receiving a green light, or preparing to launch. The Lyon training forms part of the wider ICS College of Church Planters, providing equipping alongside ongoing prayer, encouragement, invitation and support, while helping shape future church planting strategy across Europe and beyond. We would value your prayers and pray for new encounters with the Lord!

  • Established in the early 1990s as a church plant itself, St Paul’s Tervuren holds mission at its very core. Seventeen years ago, we planted a church inside Brussels’ eastern ring—a vibrant, international area where English is heard on every corner. Though it closed a decade ago, God has reignited our hearts to reach this community once more.

With the blessing of our church council, the Diocese in Europe, and the Belgian Anglican Central Committee, we are moving forward in faith. Overcoming initial hurdles has only deepened our prayer and clarified our vision for this Lord’s work.

We are launching this new venture with a festive Christmas Carol Service on 20 December 2026 in Stockel, an area highly accessible by car and public transport. Our plan is to gather monthly, steadily building momentum. Please pray for us as we embark on this exciting new chapter, this is an area where we need God’s guidance and provision but we believe that with your prayers God is faithful to establish and sustain his work.

Church Planters’ Pipeline

Church Planting takes planning and preparation.

We want to be looking ahead, training church leadership teams, identifying new towns and cities ripe for new churches, and developing all the resources and people necessary to plant new congregations.

This is a chapter of preparation and expectation for us at ICS. We are seeing encouraging new signs of church growth, opportunity and spiritual curiosity across Europe and North Africa, and we want to be in the best possible position to jump into these opportunities as they arise.

This autumn we are asking all of our ICS family to give generously towards our Church Planters’ Pipeline. We are praying for financial gifts of £25,000 or more for our next chapter of mission development and service.

We are very grateful for the continuing generosity and support you all give. Please prayerfully consider making a one-off gift this autumn, using the enclosed form, and filling out the Gift Aid information if you are a UK tax-payer.

We warmly welcome all one-off gifts, and even more valuable to us as we plan for the future are new people giving regularly, or existing givers increasing their regular gift.

Do all make sure that we have an up-to-date email address for you so that we can stay in touch and keep our costs down.

 Yours in Christ,

The Revd Simon Cansdale

ICS Mission Director
