New Archbishop of Canterbury

Intercontinental Church Society welcomes the Bishop of London as the New Archbishop of Canterbury

Intercontinental Church Society (ICS) warmly welcomes the announcement that the Bishop of London, the Rt Revd Dame Sarah Mullally, will become the next Archbishop of Canterbury.

Bishop Sarah is not only a long-standing friend of ICS but also one of our esteemed patrons. Her deep commitment to mission across diverse cultural contexts has long aligned with the heart of our work. As an organisation serving English-speaking churches in Europe, North Africa, and beyond, we have been greatly encouraged by Bishop Sarah’s vision, support, and encouragement over the years.

ICS Mission Director said:
"We are delighted by the appointment of Bishop Sarah as the next Archbishop of Canterbury. Her heart for mission is evident to all who know her. As one of our patrons, she has shown a real understanding of and passion for the ministry. We look forward to continuing our partnership in new ways as she takes up this vital role in the life of the Church of England and the worldwide Anglican Communion."

As the first woman to be appointed Archbishop of Canterbury, Bishop Sarah brings a wealth of experience, not only from her years in church leadership but also from her distinguished career in healthcare. Her appointment marks a historic and hope-filled moment for the Church, and we pray for her as she prepares to step into this significant role.

ICS remains committed to resourcing chaplaincies and planting churches in cross-cultural settings, and we are grateful to have the prayerful support and encouragement of Archbishop-elect Sarah in this ongoing mission.
