There’s a new sound in Corfu town
Holy Trinity Corfu is situated in the bustling heart of Corfu town. If you pass by on a Friday morning you’ll be drawn towards the sound of a jazz band, or on a Wednesday evening by folk music drifting in the air from the café. Music and singing are a big part of what makes Holy Trinity so attractive, but this is just a part of what has turned Holy Trinity into a community hub for the English-speaking ‘Corfiots’. Café Logos is where it all happens, providing a ‘Home from home’ for the many Brits living in Corfu.
The Café’ was envisioned and funded by Holy Trinity church, led by Jules and Trish Wilson in the Diocese in Europe. Jules heads up the amazing band that brings in musicians for the folk evenings and jazz sessions. Trish shares the job of Café manager with Mags, a member of the congregation, and together with others serve coffees and teas and much else besides, with a smile. Over the last few years, Jules told me the church has been turned ‘inside out’, so now it’s not just a vibrant worshipping community on a Sunday morning, but also a welcoming space during the week. You can join an art class, or a wine tasting evening, polish up your conversational Greek, attend the Tuesday morning bible study, or the Friday morning Prayer and Praise.
The Café makes life very busy for Jules and Trish, especially in the summer season, so they welcome the help of ICS Short-term Mission chaplains. Clare and I were there this year in late May - early June leading bible studies, and sharing our love of art. Much of our time was spent with visitors passing through, but caught up for a week or two with the buzz around the café. We heard tales of God’s work in their lives and rejoiced that Holy Trinity was there to build their faith when they needed it.
So if you are wandering around the streets of Corfu town don’t forget to listen out for the sound of music, it’s probably coming from Holy Trinity church!
